Bio
Emily Hagen is the Phoenix Operations Assistant Manager for the Arizona Department of Agriculture’s Plant Services Division. She received her B.S. in Environmental Science from the University of Arizona and during her time there joined the professional agricultural sorority Sigma Alpha. Spending her college years around women who had chosen to pursue a career in agriculture changed her entire worldview. As a child of Phoenix’s East Valley suburbs, Emily had only a passing interest in agriculture before college and had never expected it to be part of her career. 11 years later, that passing interest has transformed into a passion for understanding and advocacy. She currently specializes in nursery stock import and export certification, and in the future hopes to solve the challenges of industry misinformation in the age of memes, fake news and social media. Through Project CENTRL, she hopes to gain the tools necessary to become a strong ally for rural communities and the vital role they play for a healthier Arizona. In her spare time Emily enjoys writing, visiting state parks, spending time with her friends and family, and trying to keep her two slobbery hound dogs from eating everything in sight.
