Bio
Kalman Mannis, MEd, DDiv, is Senior Director for Rural Engagement at the Arizona Science Center in Phoenix, Arizona, where he has worked since 2016. He leads and supports a wide range of STEM initiatives and research programs serving rural and tribal communities across Arizona, including the National Rural STEM Learning Summit, the Rural Activation and Innovation Network (RAIN), Created by Culture: Indigenous STEM, Computer Science for All, and Broadening Participation in STEM with Ecosystems with NASA Science Activation 2.0. His work spans community outreach, professional development, research partnerships, and ecosystem-building, often in collaboration with universities, NASA, NSF, and tribal and rural organizations.
Before joining the Arizona Science Center, Mannis held leadership and teaching roles in K12 education, including STEM Instructional Coach for the Whiteriver School District on the White Mountain Apache Nation, STEM Education Specialist for Navajo County, STEM High School Teacher and High School Lead Teacher in various districts of N.E. Arizona.
Mannis holds a BSci in Molecular Biology from Vanderbilt University, an MEd from the University of Phoenix, and both a MDiv and a DDiv.
When not traveling around Arizona, you can find Kal hiking the Sky Islands of S.E. AZ, wine tasting in the Verde Valley, or exploring the Blue Highways of the U.S. In support of the various communities Kal works in, he sits on the governing boards of: Friends of the Verde River, White Mountain Nature Center, and Professionals and Educators Across Cochise (PEAC).
