Marshall A. Lehman (MAL), although born in Lordsburg, New Mexico because it was (and still is) the nearest hospital to Duncan, Arizona considers himself a native Arizonan having spent all but the first ten days of life, until age 18, in Duncan. He graduated from Duncan High School in 1962.

The next years were spent in Tucson at the University of Arizona, 1962 - 1966 as an undergraduate majoring in political science and active both in campus politics (BMOC on campus) and the head hasher and president of his college fraternity. Although long out of vogue - think "Animal House" - the grossly overstated (but hilariously funny) movie that for all its excesses is a reasonable facsimile of college life in the 1960s.

Now an 82 year old lawyer of 55+ years he is fortunate to be admitted to practice law in Arizona in 1969, a few years before big specialization invaded the law. As a result, he has extensive experience in most areas of the law. Along the way, when new laws were passed, for example Wage/Price controls during the Nixon Administration that impacted all residential developers, he got the call.

More specifically, practicing in Phoenix in the real estate boom (and occasional bust) of the '70's - early aughts, he developed a profile of the baseball utility outfielder, a jack of all trades. In summary, he put together the legal framework for real estate "deals" of all kinds - land acquisition, commercial properties, shopping centers, many residential developments and planned area developments, and the like. The real estate industry being cyclical, he also took deals apart legally during various real estate crashes. In summary, his practice included transactional work ("deals") and commercial litigation of all types, especially real estate and family estate and trust disputes, including a subspeciality in equine law. In turn, that led to representation of the Arabian Horse Association of Arizona and the Arizona Quarter Racing Association and several interesting trials on equine matters.

One of the most interesting engagements was his ten year stint as the pro bono attorney for the American Fighter Aces Association. Marshall considers it a privilege to have done legal work for the Aces and to meet and get to know them.

Along the way, he also organized and incorporated Environmental Conscience (ECO) in 1970, Arizona Outdoor Expeditions in 1978, the Arizona Jewish Historical Society in 1980, and Gila Outdoor, a mini-REI in 1994, located in Safford, Arizona.

He is the father of two children: Jennifer, an employment lawyer and her younger brother, Aaron, a doctor, both of whom live and work in San Diego, and PapaMAL to four grandkids.

Now back in Duncan, he is the Founding Chair of the newly formed Duncan Valley Foundation which focuses on badly needed economic development of the area.
