CRC: Grand Canyon
February 3 – 4, 2023

Join us for this special CENTR Regional Connection as we spend time with the CENTRL family in the place where our state got its nickname: Grand Canyon. We’ll enjoy food, get some exercise, see some views and take advantage of the smaller winter crowds and cheaper seasonal rates. We’ll drive the seasonally open Hermit’s Road to the end and have two hiking options from there. As the name states; we are focusing our time on getting to know one another and enjoying time outside and won’t have a formal speaker or program besides what’s outlined below. Choose and book your own lodging and CENTRL will host the meals.

Complimentary registration for all alumni, Class 31, family, guests and those interested in learning more about the CENTRL experience is due by Friday 1/27/23

Friday 2/3 6:30pm: Dinner Fred Harvey Burger in Bright Angel Lodge (Location confirmed 1/31/23; no reservation or dedicated space - we'll break up into smaller groups.) Drinks and conversation to follow at Fred Harvey Tavern in Bright Angel Lodge.

Saturday 2/4 10am: Meet at Hermit’s Rest / Hermit’s Trailhead Option A: Moderate, but steep hike below the rim on Hermit’s Trail. One hour down and two hours up. Option B: Stay on the Rim Trail and hike to viewpoints. (Update 1/31/23: Location TBD based on road status Friday afternoon)

Saturday 2/4 1:30pm: Lunch at Arizona Steakhouse in Bright Angel Lodge (Location confirmed 1/31/23. Reservations made.) Afternoon on your own to explore the park.

Lodging: Book your own in-park lodging options are only available to be booked here: https://www.grandcanyonlodges.com/lodging/ While there are commercial, name brand hotels outside the Park in Tusayan; take advantage of lower rates and occupancy in the winter and stay in the Park! Maswick is the most economical, similar to a standard hotel and a 10 minute walk to the rim. Bright Angel Lodge is right on the rim and has various options for cabins- to single rooms; note not all rooms have in-room bathrooms – some utilize group bathrooms. Kachina Lodge is on the rim and 60’s era rooms. El Tovar is the nicest, most well-known and thus most expensive and quickest booking hotel on the rim.

Entrance Fee: pay your own entrance fee. Recommended to purchase the $80 America the Beautiful - The National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Annual Pass good at any National Park for a year. Lifetime passes available for those 62 y.o.+ Or purchase Grand Canyon Only: $35 / vehicle for 7-days.

Questions: Call 520-403-5624 or email: scott@centrl.org Scott Koenig, Executive Director, Class 21 and two-season employee at North Rim Lodge and two-year hiking guide at Canyon Ranch in Tucson.
